Nas

Nas is the mononym of Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones. He was born on September 14, 1973 in Queensbridge, New York. He is the son of jazz musician Olu Dara and postal worker Fannie Ann Jones. In 1994, Nas released his debut album Illmatic through Columbia Records. Upon its release the album debuted on the Billboard 200 chart at number 12, while selling 59,000 copies in its first week of release. In spite of initial low sales, Illmatic received positive reviews from several music critics and publications. As the album’s reputation grew, copies continued to sell, and on January 17, 1996, the album was certified gold in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and in 2001, the album was certified platinum. Nas’ sophomore album was entitled “It Was Written” and was released in 1996. It’s Nas’ best selling album and nn September 9, 1996,  he album was certified multi-platinum. Since then he has released seven albums. He has also acted in several movies such as 1998’s Belly and 2001’s Ticker. He has also worked on several collaboration albums such as From Illmatic to Stillmatic: The Remixes, The Lost Tapes and Greatest Hits.

Nelly Furtado

Nelly Furtado was born on December 2, 1978 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. She is a singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress of Portuguese ancestry. In October of 2004 she released her debut album “Whoa, Nelly!” through DreamWorks Records. It peaked at number twenty-four on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, and opened to critical acclaim. It produced three international singles: “I’m Like a Bird”, “Turn off the Light” and “…On the Radio (Remember the Days)”. Whoa, Nelly! had sold seven million copies worldwide as of August 2006. In 2003, Nelly Furtado released her second album, Folklore. It has been certified Gold in the U.S. and the U.K. and Platinum in Canada and Germany. On June 20, 2006, Nelly Furtado released Loose through Geffen Records. It had sold more than seven million copies worldwide. She has won several awards which include A Grammy in 2002 for “I’m like a Bird” and a Juno Award in 2007 for “Promiscuous”.Nelly Furtado has sold over 18 million albums worldwide and currently resides in Toronto,  Canada. She has also appeared on American television in several series such as Roswell, One Life to Live and CSI: NY. She also appeared in the video game adaptation of Max Payne.

Eagles

The Eagles is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California during the early 1970s. It’s current members include Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit. Former members of the Eagles have included Don Felder, Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon. The groups self titled debut was released in 1972. In 2003, the album was ranked number 374 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The first single and lead track, “Take It Easy reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and propelled the Eagles to stardom. Since their debut, the Eagles have released six studio albums which include Desperado in 1973, On the Border in 1974 and Hotel California in 1976. They have also released two live albums, nine compilation albums and 29 singles. The Eagles have also won six Grammy awards. With five #1 singles and six #1 albums, the Eagles were one of the most successful recording artists of the decade. The Eagles broke up in 1980, but reunited in 1994 for Hell Freezes Over, a mix of live and new studio tracks. They have toured intermittently since then, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

Prince

Prince is the stage name of Prince Rogers Nelson born on June 7, 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born to pianist John L. Nelson and jazz singer Matti Shaw. He was named after his father, whose stage name was Prince Rogers, and who performed with a jazz group called the Prince Rogers Trio. On April 7, 1978 he released his debut album For You. It originally only sold 150,000 copies in the U.S. and 430,000 copies worldwide but with his latter success would eventually go on to sell almost a million copies. Between 1979 and 1981 he released three albums but his breakthrough album would come in 1982 with the studio release entitled 1999. It was his first top ten album on the Billboard 200 charts in the United States (peaking at number nine) and became the fifth best-selling album of 1983. Prince released his sixth album and his best selling through Warner Brothers in 1984. It was titled Purple Rain and it has gone platinum thirteen times over. Since the start of his career, Prince has won seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award. He was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the first year he was eligible in 2004.
